I don’t think giving a 5 star review is adequate - this place deserves at least 10 stars! Thanks to Head Coach Ben, I am in the best shape of my life, both mentally and physically. Training at WCBC has made me proud to be a woman who powerlifts - I am strong physically and mentally, and I now have the utmost respect with what my body is capable of. I have made some fantastic friends and been exposed to such a great community. I have also started on a career path within the strength training world, which I’d never have had the opportunity to do without this place. 10/10 the best gym in Perth.
Ben’s a great coach who focuses on health and building a body-positive culture in his gym for men and women. I had never trained before and was worried about the perceived culture of weightlifting, but I’ve had the best experience with Ben and WCBC!
I was introduced to Coach Ben through a friend, who was introduced through a friend, and that pretty much sums up the atmosphere at West Coast Barbell Club. Everyone you meet is friendly, supportive and encouraging. I started working with Ben about 5 months ago; I had no strength, I struggled to lift the bar alone more than once or twice, and to say minimal fitness would be an overstatement. Since then I have lost weight and seen my strength grow in a way I never actually believed was possible, all of which is awesome and well worth the work! But the unexpected part is that my confidence in myself has grown along with everything else and that is invaluable. As a coach Ben is patient, knowledgeable and dedicated; if you commit to the program it will be one of the best decisions you make for your physical and mental health.
I’ve been training with Ben almost a year, and I’m stronger than I thought was possible. The gym is super friendly and relaxed with no dickheads, no mirrors, and no stereotypical gym-bro nonsense.If you want a scientific, sensible, healthy, and sustainable way to get into lifting really heavy stuff in Perth (and you should), you can’t go past Ben at West Coast Barbell Club. Highly recommended!
If you’re looking for personalised strength training and nutrition advice this is the place. Coach Ben puts an incredible amount of time and effort into making sure you get the best results from your training whether it be one on one or a busy group class. 10 months ago I was leading a sedentary, unhealthy lifestyle, fast forward and I’m over 10kg lighter, more confident and feel awesome and strong. Great location and friendly atmosphere too! Cheers WCBC! If I could give more stars I would.
I came from a CrossFit background and was looking to do something a little different. I always had a penchant for lifting rather than heavy cardio. I was quite surprised to find my body composition basically stayed the same swapping out high intensity for Ben’s (very!) methodical and calculated programming. Still a bit of a cardio burn in there every now and then which is good but certainly things everyone can manage.Above all else - after my first block of training with Ben all of my lifts increased by 10% which was a massive increase for where I was at the time and quite surprising! The difference in training specific movements rather than being hugely varied (Which seems to be the current circuit style training trend) was interesting and the results spoke for themselves.Results and programming aside, its a great little group, chilled vibe, no turbos... It just feels like a grassroots no frills gym - that’s what I love about it. Follow the programming and you will get results, its really simple. Ben is also scarily knowledgable!

People keep asking me “what’s the secret?” and truly, I wish there was one, but it really is as simple as eat less and train more.Ben was at my side through every session, I cried, I gave up, I said no, but most importantly I’ve laughed, I’ve found strength, I’ve pushed myself, I’ve kept going and I have achieved my goal!It has not been easy, but it has been worth it. I am happier and healthier than ever before.
Ben is an exceptional coach and training here has dramatically increased my strength and confidence in my abilities. The group training environment encourages attendance as well as creating a fun and open place to train. I wouldn’t go anywhere else and I would recommend WCBC to anybody who wants discipline and strength from training

If you show him the same dedication to the program he sets, the results are very impressive.He has been patient with me during my knee injury and gone out of his way to educate himself on the best possible action to assist my recovery. Been training with head coach Ben for about 9 months and have seen really good improvements in strength and general health. Highly recommend if you are looking for a gym with a great team and a coach that is focused on your personal performance and improvement!!
I have been training with Ben for over 12 months and have really enjoyed it. He is very knowledgeable and has a great way of encouraging everyone, no matter what their goals are. His gym is very unique and its great to be part of the team at WCBC.
